I was glad when I heard that they had recently changed their name from Midtown Yacht Club to Midtown BBQ and Brew. Before, I always thought the name sounded like a yacht owning members only kind of place. Now, the name makes a lot more sense and I’m glad to know that I am allowed inside.
We went on a Tuesday for a quick and cheap bite. I was surprised by how packed the place was, mostly young professionals and college students. The place has a very quaint and down to earth feel to it like you could hang out there all day. I’m sure some people do.
We ordered the pulled pork nachos to start. I was expecting normal mediocre nachos but wow was I impressed! The best part about this dish was the pork and BBQ sauce. We chose the red BBQ sauce which was sweet, tangy, with the perfect amount of spice. You could tell that it was homemade. The generous hunks of pulled pork slathered in BBQ sauce were well seasoned and moist. I almost felt that the pieces of pork could have been cut smaller to help with the chip to meat ratio.
I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and my husband ordered the ½ chicken BBQ dish. Seriously we were eating the leftovers for days afterwards because the portions were huge! My pulled pork tasted precisely like the pork nachos which I did not mind since it was delicious. The fries were fine but became fantastic since they gave you ketchup and homemade BBQ sauce on the table for dipping purposes. The mac and cheese had just enough creaminess that it tasted like the mac and cheese from Golden Corral (in a good way) except fresher and cheesier. My husband’s BBQ chicken had the yellow sauce, which tastes more like a Carolina BBQ sauce. The sauce has a stronger vinegar flavor, which my husband loved.
So if you think about it, my sandwich was $8 bucks and my husband’s meal was $10 bucks. So cheap! Not to mention that we each had leftovers for the next day. This place is cheaper than McDonald’s and 20 times more delicious. Why anyone would eat fast food when you can eat homemade BBQ for the same price is beyond me! I choose the BBQ.
